Pick Up The Mic marks Alex Hinton's directorial feature debut, and is the culmination of his three years documenting queer hip-hop artists throughout the U.S.   Hinton along with Andy Wombwell are screenwriters and most recently worked on “General Hospital: Night Shift.”  In 2004, Hinton produced the feature-length Stame The Batch DVD for musical group Gravy Train!!!!  His short films The Perfect Shade and I Woke Up! played at numerous festivals in San Francisco, L.A., New York, Chicago, and London.

Pick Up The Mic is the first feature produced by Alan Skinner, a fifteen-year veteran of television production and marketing, who also co-edited the film. Skinner's skills have been seen in hundreds of programs the world over, including Highlander, Tales From the Crypt, and the dark documentary series Curious World.  He also served as pageant producer for Fox Television's The Swan.
