The tour, titled HOMOREVOLUTION TOUR 2007 will launch on Thursday, March 29, 2007 in San Diego, California before proceeding to nine more cities including L.A., Las Vegas, Phoenix, El Paso, Albuquerque, San Antonio, Houston, Austin, and Dallas on April 8th.

Leading the tour is controversial gay rapper DEADLEE (www.deadlee.com), who made headlines throughout the hip hop music world following his announcement of the tour in late January and his condemnation of the blatantly homophobic lyrics of hip hop’s biggest names, such as 50cent, Eminem, and DMX. His comments were the talk of many entertainment and pop culture blogs (including Rolling Stone and Wired). The attention led to a CNN interview on the subject (Hip Hop and Homophobia) in mid - February on the Paula Zahn Now Show, and an appearance on a forthcoming episode of the Tyra Banks Show.

The name of the tour was inspired from a scene in PICK UP THE MIC, where gay hip hop pioneer Juba Kalamka makes the statement, “Queer boys doing hip hop is a revolutionary act”.  PICK UP THE MIC is recognized as the definitive documentary (and an official HomoRevolution tour sponsor) on the LGBT hip-hop phenomenon loosely referred to as “Homohop”. Director Alex Hinton profiles LGBT hip-hop artists from around the world, sharing the inspirational stories of  their lives and art. An edited version continues its run on the MTV owned LOGO network, while the uncensored version continues festival playdates prior to its DVD release this fall.

Joining Deadlee on the HomoRevolution Tour are fellow PICK UP THE MIC artists Tori Fixx, Johnny Dangerous, and Qboy, who is from the U.K. Also from the U.K. on the tour is Mz. Fontaine. Other artists scheduled for 4 or more dates are San Francisco’s JFP, Detroit’s Feloni, Ohio’s Bigg Nugg, Salvimex (rapping in Spanish) and Long Beach, Ca based transgendered artist Foxxjazell. At least a half dozen other artists will play supporting roles in various cities.

What is PICK UP THE MIC?

A surprising, fast-paced documentary on the world of queer rappers. Featuring searing public performances and raw, revealing interviews with the community’s most significant players, the film captures an unapologetic underground music movement just as it explodes into the mainstream - defying the music industry's most homophobic genre in the process.

PICK UP THE MIC has played in more than fifty festivals throughout the U.S., and abroad, including screenings in England, Germany, Canada, Australia and Brazil.  Screenings have often featured live appearances by many of the film’s artists, who have been met with overwhelming  enthusiasm and appreciation for their  work.
